About the Chieftain
The Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Chieftain is published every Thursday by The World Company.
The Wyandotte Chieftain was established in May 1896 by Ed Matthews, and two years later adopted the name Bonner Springs Chieftain just prior to the incorporation of Bonner Springs as a city of the third class in 1898. The name was changed in the mid-1970’s to the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Chieftain to better reflect the area the paper serves. The Chieftain added a companion shopper in 1975. In October 2000, The World Company, Lawrence, Kansas, purchased Chieftain-Sentinel Publications.
