Eighth-grade A tops Monticello Trails

The Basehor-Linwood Middle School eighth-grade "A" basketball team fought back from a halftime deficit to defeat Monticello Trails, 24-21, on Nov. 21.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed at the half, 13-10, but in the third quarter, BLMS outscored MTMS, 11-4, taking a 21-17 advantage on their way to the win.

"We played a very good third quarter and I was proud of how we played defensively after the first quarter," said B-L head coach Jeff Venema.

Amy Chrisman led Basehor-Linwood with 11 points, including a pair of three-pointers.

Eighth-grade B edges MTMS

The BLMS eighth-grade "B" team also scored a victory at Monticello Trails, winning 14-10.

The first and third quarters proved to be the difference in the game. Basehor-Linwood allowed just one point between the two stanzas, that coming in the third quarter.

Monticello Trails tops seventh-grade A

The seventh-grade "A" team stayed close with Monticello Trails for a quarter on Nov. 21, but the Lady Bulldogs faltered in the final three periods in a 24-11 loss.

The two teams were tied at 6-6 after the first quarter, but MTMS shutout BLMS, 6-0 in the second stanza, then outscored the Lady Bulldogs, 12-5, in the second half.

Seventh-grade B defeats MTMS

The seventh-grade "B" team used a strong defensive effort in the second half to defeat Monticello Trails, 10-8, Nov. 21 on the BLMS court.

The visitors took a 4-2 lead at the half, but Basehor-Linwood outscored MTMS 8-4 down the stretch.

Bulldog wrestlers go 2-2 in duals during week

The Basehor-Linwood Middle School wrestling team competing in four duals during the last week. The Bulldogs went 2-2 during the week.

On Monday, Basehor-Linwood hosted Santa Fe Trail and Rossville, losing both duals. The Bulldogs lost to SFT, 79-52, and to Rossville, 39-9.

Zach Davis and Jayce Proctor led BLMS, winning two matches each. Davis scored a technical fall and a decision, while Proctor won both matches by decision.

On Nov. 20, the Bulldog wrestlers hosted three other schools and had duals against two of them. Basehor-Linwood defeated Lawrence West, 62-51, and Eudora, 60-51.

Eight BLMS grapplers won two matches on the night, including Michael Armstrong, Nick Fisher, Craig Bower and Peter Brown, who all scored a pair of pins. Proctor, Darren Dyer, Paul Schlagel and Steven Bower also won two matches each.
