Christmas parade worth the effort

Editorial

November 30, 2000

Confusion over liability insurance prompted the Bonner Springs Business and Professional Women's group to cancel this year's Christmas parade.

The past few weeks of confusion over the matter left many involved with a bad taste in their mouths.

Whether it was a lack of communication or a lack of cooperation between city officials and the business women's group, we doubt anyone is happy with the outcome.

We hope the city and the women's group will put this year's episode behind them, learn from it and begin planning for next year's event.

City officials are fortunate to have a group, such as the business women, so willing to take on the responsibility of planning the parade. It involves a lot of hard of work and goes far in fostering community spirit.

We hope the first parade sponsored by the business women's group last year won't be the last. We encourage other civic groups in the area to pitch in and make the parade an annual event.

As the communities of Bonner Springs and Edwardsville continue to grow, events such as a Christmas parade become increasingly important. Let's keep that small-community atmosphere and join together to make sure next year's parade is a success.
