Pierson tops eighth-grade A

The Clark Middle School eighth-grade "A" girls basketball team trailed by eight points after each quarter before losing to Pierson at home on Nov. 21, 43-39.

A tough start for the Panthers proved to be the difference as Pierson took a 14-6 advantage. The gap stayed the same after the second and third quarters before CMS attempted a late comeback.

Shantenie Tyner led all scorers in the game with 13 points, including 11 in the first half.

Seventh-grade A whips Pierson

The Clark seventh-grade "A" girls team had little trouble in its game against Pierson on Nov. 21, topping the visitors, 55-20.

The Panthers took an 18-8 lead after one quarter and boosted the advantage to 35-13 at the intermission, helping them cruise to the win.

Lisa Zarate and Hilary Johnson led Clark with 10 points each, while Stephanie Elmer and Sara Reyes added eight each.

Eighth-grade B splits games

The eighth-grade "B" team played their third straight overtime game on Monday, but lost at Piper, 24-23, in two OTs.

Clark trailed at the half, 11-5, after failing to score in the first period. But Jamie Frentrop scored a goal late in regulation to send the game into the first extra session.

In the first overtime, Cambry Hergesheimer sank a clutch free throw to send the game to another extra period, but Piper was able to pull out the win in the second OT.

At Lansing on Nov. 20, the squad had to go to overtime before posting a 30-24 victory.

Clark led heading into the final quarter before Lansing made 7-of-15 free throws to help send the game into the extra session. But the Panthers shut down the home squad in overtime while putting up seven of its own points.

Seventh-grade B loses two games

The Clark seventh-grade "B" team held Piper scoreless in the second and third quarters, but the Panthers could not take advantage, losing at Piper, 11-10, on Monday.

Courtney Ford and Katie Laurion scored four points each to lead CMS.

On Nov. 20, Lansing led all the way in downing Clark, 27-14.

The Panthers trailed by two after one quarter and six at the half, but the home squad kept increasing its lead the rest of the way.

Mindy Morasch and Angel Cantania combined to score 12 of Clark's 14 points.

Clark wrestlers add dual victories

On Nov. 21, the Clark wrestlers traveled to Topeka for a double dual against Topeka-Logan and Patton, and the Panthers came away with a pair of victories.

Clark defeated Patton, 66-42, and Logan, 58-27. Four Panther grapplers scored three victories on the day, Travis Mulich (75 pounds), Dustin Knudson (120), Billy Ballard (141) and Jordan Lamb (148). Mulich, Knudson and Ballard won each of their matches by fall, while Lamb scored two pins and a technical fall.
