The Bonner Springs varsity soccer team fell to 3-10-1 on the season with four setbacks in the past 10 days.

On Oct. 9, the Braves fell to Turner 7-1 at Edwardsville Park. Jimmy Vogel scored the sole goal for the Braves. The next night the Braves fell at Maur Hill 3-2. Vogel and Chad Vandenberg scored the Bonner Springs goals.

Last Thursday the Braves were defeated at Ottawa 5-0, then on Monday lost a home match to Maranatha 5-1. Blake Ritter scored Bonner Springs' goal.

Despite the losses, co-coach John Linn said he continues to see positive signs.

"We have been fairly pleased with our defense. They have been worked to death," he said. "The scores may not indicate it, but we've really played well. We just haven't been able to get much offense going."

Linn noted the Marantha game was typical.

"We always seem to start out slow. It was 2-0 in the first ten minutes, but then we settled down and played good ball. It was 2-0 at half, then it just got sloppy later," he said.

The Braves closed the regular season at home last night against Sumner. The Braves will be preparing for regional play that opens next Monday. Opponents and sites will not be determined until a seeding meeting on Saturday.

The junior varsity Braves tell at Ottawa last Thursday 4-0. The team is 3-4-1 on the season.
