Across the river
Mrs. Johnnie Lee Kueker celebrated her 75th birthday with a reception at the Monticello United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on April 1. Over 150 persons attended to wish her well. Her children, Melanie Duncan, Cyndi Ashby and L.E. Kueker sponsored the affair. A bountiful buffet was enjoyed by all. Many happy returns, Johnnie!
Ruth Lynn, Doris Katherman, Bertha Cameron, Susan Cockrum, and daughter, Sara, Maureen Woolever and daughter, Heather, and Doris Housh attended the UMC Kansas City District Spring Event March 31 at Marson Memorial UMC in Kansas City, Kan. The theme was "Sewing new Seeds" and it was Doris Housh's first meeting presiding as the new president.
Mrs. Dorothy Sheldon of Stillwell, daughter of Mrs. Lula James, visited her mother on March 31, and had dinner. Dorothy had been out of town for three months, so they had some catching up to do.
Fifteen members of the United Methodist East Conference Board on Pensions met at the Fellowship Hall on April 2. Dinner was served by two church ladies.
Miss Mellisa Truebel was a visitor at the home on Mrs. Maxine Renner on April 2.
Robert Hunter had a birthday. He celebrated with dinner at Tippin's in Overland Park after attending church services at Central UMC in Armourdale on April 1. Attending with Robert and helping him celebrate were Judy and Julio Hunter, Mike and Kim Hunter, Rob Hunter and Betty Hunter. Many happy returns, Robert!
Youths from Monticello UMYF took a trip to Frisco, Colo., last weekend to ski. They were Elise Umbarger, Kent Williams, Drew Scanlon, Ryan Draper, Travis Lynn and his cousin Wesley, Jenn Freeman, Amy Gardens, Kerri Walters and Heather Woolever. Sponsors were Brian and Deb Umbarger, Maureen Woolever and Teresa Lynn. They had a ball (snow that is)!
Mrs. Camille Lynn proudly announced the arrival of her first great-grandchild, Alexander Park, 7 pounds, 10 ounces. He was born March 17 to Mellisa and Robert Lynn in Gardner. Rick and Pris Lynn are the proud grandparents. Welcome to our world, Alexander!
Bob and Marie Rabenau, Shelly Kincaid, Kylie and Brayden, Dan and Daniel Ganaden were visitors as the home of Dorothy Kincaid on April 1, for an evening of tacos and Scrabble.
Mrs. Camille Lynn and Mr. Don Lynn were dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Doris Katherman on March 31.
Elden and Marjorie Lynn, Linn Hamblin and Maxine Renner enjoyed lunch at Ponderosa in Olathe on April 3, before Linn bowled.
Our condolences to the family of William Conrad Flinn, who died April 1 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. His funeral was April 5, at the Monticello UMC Dinner was served to the family in the Fellowship hall following the service. "Connie" was a lifelong resident of the Monticello and Shawnee area, and lived in DeSoto for a short time. He'll be missed by many friends and family.
Our condolences to the family of Virginia Broom, who died April 4 at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Her funeral was April 7 at Monticello UMC. Virginia was a member of the church and the United Methodist Women. Dinner was taken to the home of one of the daughters after the service. We'll miss her.
Mrs. Waverly Williams spent several days in Olathe Medical Center under going tests during the week of April 1.
Hope you all got out to vote on April 3. It's a long day to work and we like to see your smiling faces.
The Monticello UMW needlecraft group met at the hall April 4. Joining for the day were Dorothy Kincaid, Jean Hodson, Lula James, Carolyn Peacocke, Betty Hunter, Ruth Lynn, Grace Reynolds, Doris Katherman, Camille Lynn, Bertha Cameron, Maxine Renner, Isabel Golden, Flossa Barney and Shirley Nichols. Jay Nichols and Dee Hetlinger joined us for lunch. Mary/Martha circle met after lunch with 11 ladies attending. Zela Holt joined us for the meeting.
