Across the river
The Monticello United Methodist Women unit meeting was held at the Fellowship Hall on April 7. The program was presented by Janice Hrabik of Shawnee and was a book report on "Damian the Leper." Attending were Bertha Cameron, Dorothy Kincaid, Jean Hodson, Betty Hunter, Ruth Lynn, Susan Cockrum, Doris Katherman, Shirley Lucas, Doris Housh, Tori Satterwhite and Teresa Biron. Refreshments were served by Mary/Martha Circle.
Doris Katherman, Johnnie Lee Kueker and Camille Lynn visited Helen McNatt at Sterling House in Olathe and also Waverly Williams at the Rodney Evans home April 8 after church. They had lunch as the Waffle House in Olathe.
Over 200 people attended Palm Sunday services at Monticello United Methodist Church where we processed with the palms into the sanctuary to enjoy the choir and a good service.
The Kaw Valley Community Chorus performed at the West Haven Baptist Church in Tonganoxie April 6, then at the United Methodist Church in Bonner Springs on April 7 and the First Baptist Church in Basehor on April 8. Jean Hodson, Jackie and Lowell Starb, Art Howell, and Sandra Evans of Monticello UMC are all members of the choir.
Mr. and Mrs. Randy Bowers and family were lunch guests at the home of Mrs. Maxine Renner on April 8 after church.
Mrs. Ruth Lynn and Mr. John Lynn enjoyed dinner together at K.T. Fryers in Lenexa on April 8 after church. Teresa and Travis Lynn were in Colorado on a ski trip.
Mrs. Dana Finney and Adam Wynkoop spent the week of April 8 in Ohio on a business trip.
Mrs. Lula James had a birthday on April 6. Her children, John Robert and Barbara James; Dorothy and Chester Sheldon and Jerry and Betty James visited her and they enjoyed ice cream and cake. Then, on April 8, the group, joined by Ashley, Lula's great granddaughter, Kim James and a friend, Michael, Cindy and Cordell Fraizer all celebrated with dinner at the Old Country Buffet in Shawnee. Many happy returns, Lula! Hang in there, you're getting younger every day!
Bob and Marie Rabenau of Kansas City, Kan., brought dinner to Dorothy Kincaid on April 8. After dinner, they played a game of Scrabble.
Mrs. Ruth Lynn and daughter, Lynda Anderson, of Drexal, Mo., ate lunch at First Watch in Shawnee April 9, then visited several cemeteries with Easter flowers.
The Monticello UMW needlecraft group met at the Fellowship Hall April 11. Gathering for the day were Jean Hodson, Dorothy Kincaid, Lula James, Betty Hunter, Ruth Lynn, Shirley Nichols, Carolyn Peacocke, Shirley Lucas, Myrtle Thomas, Maxine Renner, Isabel Golden, Doris Katherman and Bertha Cameron. Dee Hetlinger, Pastor Randy Robinson, Art Howell, Jim Reynolds and Jay Nichols joined us for lunch. We quilted, several laprobes were tied and bulletins folded. A busy day.
The Monticello Community Historical Society is scheduling a tour of Atchinson, Kan., May 5. They will be touring Amelia Earhart's home, Muchnic Historic home and Art Gallery, Cray Historic home and the historic Abbey. Contact Jeanann Maurer at 422-7544 for more information.
