The Monticello United Methodist Church took part in the United Methodist Women's Sunday on Feb. 11. Both services were conducted by UMW members. Our speaker for both services was Louise Frogge, who spoke on 'In the Beginning.' A special mission pin was presented to Mr. Dave Housh by the UMW unit for his excellent and untiring care and landscaping of the church grounds. Pastor Randy assisted in services.

Our condolences to the family of Clark Borgelt, who died on Friday, Feb. 9, following a fight with cancer. Barbara and family are members of Monticello UMC. The funeral and internment took place Feb. 12 at Mount Mariah Chapel in Kansas City, Mo. A family dinner was served following services at Monticello Fellowship Hall by UMW ladies.

Sara Hipsher and friend, Jack Hensley, treated Betty Hunter to the Lawn and Flower Show in Kansas City, Mo., Feb. 11, following breakfast at the Hunter home.

Mrs. Waverly Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Evans attended a birthday party for Ashley Roberts' fifth birthday on Feb. 10. Ashley is the daughter of Shawn Evans. The party was held at Jeepers in Olathe.

Mrs. Lynda Anderson and Mrs. Ruth Lynn lunched at Zio's in Olathe on Feb. 12, which was Lynda's treat for Valentine's Day.

Mrs. Doris Katherman and Mrs. Camille Lynn lunched at Burger King in Olathe after church on Feb. 11.

Doris Housh, Doris Katherman, Ruth Lynn, Zela Holt, Bertha Cameron and Jean Hodson attended UMW Legislative Day in Topeka on Feb. 13. They all took different workshops. The speaker was Brother Daniel E. Andrews, executive director of the National Catholic Rural Conference in Des Moines, Iowa. The girls had both breakfast and lunch at the Topeka First United Methodist Church, where the event took place.

Our condolences to the family of Mike Borbely, who died Feb. 12 at home in Shawnee following a long siege of cancer. Memorial service were at Amos Funeral Home in Shawnee on Feb. 13. The family has our prayers.

Visitors at the home of Harold and Isabel Golden on Feb. 11 were Dave and Raelene Bowden, Ramsy and Haley. Then, on Feb. 14, Dorothy Kincaid, Everett and Donna Bowers, Jeannie Bowers, Blake and Alex and Terry Kieth and three daughters stopped by to wish them a happy Valentine's Day and a happy 65th Anniversary, which was Feb. 15.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Linden celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception at the DeSoto United Methodist Church on Feb. 10. Attending from the Monticello area were Johnnie Lee Kueker, and Ron and Cindy Ashby. Congratulations Bob and 'Boots!'

Rodney Evans had a birthday. The event was celebrated with a dinner at the Evans' home on Feb. 11 with all their children, grandchildren and Mrs. Waverly Williams attending. Many happy returns, Rodney. You're just a kid yet!

Johnnie Lee Kueker, Shelley Stovall, Amanda Bivens and Cyndi Ashby attended the symphony in Oak Park Feb. 11. Ian and John Michaels both played the cello in the performance. The group dined at the foodcourt in Oak Park.

The Monticello UMW needlecraft group met at the hall on Feb. 14 to quilt and chat. Joining for the day were Jean Hodson, Bertha Cameron, Dorothy Kincaid, Ruth Lynn, Waverly Williams, Betty Hunter, Carolyn Peacocke, Grace Reynolds, Shirley Nichols and Doris Katherman. Maureen Woolever, Dee Hetlinger, Jim Reynolds, Jay Nichols and Sid Peacocke joined for lunch. Bill and Jean Whitenack dropped by to say hello.
