Across the river
Dorothy Barth had a birthday Feb. 23. Her husband, Bill, treated her to dinner out at the Golden Corral in Olathe. Many happy returns, Dorothy!
Charlene Frakes announces the birth of her great-granddaughter, Breanna Frakes. She is the daughter of Brent and Laura Frakes in Florida. The baby was born on Charlene's birthday, Feb. 25. She also had a great-grandson, Jaxon Eddy, born on Valentine's Day to Darrin and Stazi Eddy. That makes four great-grandchildren for Charlene.
The Monticello United Methodist Women youth held a taco dinner at the Hall after services Feb. 25 to help raise funds for their up coming ski trip. About 80 people enjoyed the dinner. The UMW 'Mini Bazaar' was at the same time and was successful.
Charlene Frakes celebrated her birthday on Feb. 25 with dinner with family at the Steak 'N Ale in Overland Park. Helping her celebrate were Chuck and Ina Frakes and family, David and Pat Frakes and family and a friend, Larry and Janet Frakes, Julie Frakes and family, Mindy Blaine and family, Darrin and Stazi Eddy and son, and Dwayne and Lavene Anderson from Tipton, Mo. Many happy returns, Charlene!
Our condolences to Julia Polfer and family on the death of her daughter, Beverly Smith of Hot Springs, Ark. The funeral was held at the Monticello United Methodist Church March 3. Internment was in Leavenworth.
Mrs. Ruth Lynn and Mrs. Lynda Anderson of Drexal, Mo. lunched at the Cracker Barrel in Olathe Feb. 22.
Mr. and Mrs. Olin Holt spent a night at the Marriott Hotel in Overland Park on Feb. 24 after attending the Shriners Potentate Ball that evening. Then, on Feb. 25, they attended a breakfast at the Shrine Center for visiting dignitaries and officers. A busy weekend!
Mr. Linn Hamblin and Mrs. Maxine Renner attended the dinner theatre in Overland Park on Feb. 25 to see Don Knotts.
Mrs. Ruth Lynn attended the Shawnee Mission Indian Historical Society luncheon meeting on Feb. 26 at Ryan's Steakhouse in Shawnee. The speaker was Georgia Slaughter the Kansas City, Kan., Head Librarian, who spoke of the 'Kansas' room at the library.
Mr. and Mrs. John Lynn, Mr. and Mrs. Elden Lynn, and Mrs. Ruth Lynn attended the funeral of Mr. William Trager in Waverly, Kan., Feb. 28. Bill was a former area resident. Internment was in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Monticello UMW held their unit meeting in the chapel on Feb. 24. It was a budget meeting and pledge service. Sixteen members attended. Spirit Circle provided a continental breakfast.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hunter were dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Betty Hunter on Feb. 23.
