Kerry Roberts teams compete in league games

Youth basketball teams competed in the Kerry Roberts basketball league last weekend. In third and fourth grade “A” division games; the Black team defeated the Gray team 23-0. Morgan Reed led the Black team with 13 points and Julie Ann Jackson scored six points. In another game, the Navy team defeated Gold, 6-2.

Bonner Springs wrestlers prep for Lee Summit tourney

Being competitive will be important for the Bonner Springs wrestling team this weekend. The Braves will compete in the Lee Summit Christmas Tournament on Friday and Saturday and it is the best competition the team will see all season. Coach Dan Burns has had state placers wrestlers who didn’t make finals in the tournament, which has 24 teams entered in it.
Cook turns in personal-best performance in meet

Senior Josh Cook of the Bonner Springs High School swim team opened the season with the best meet of his career. Cook, a co-captain, placed second in the 100 breaststroke to top the Braves in their first meet last Wednesday (Dec. 5) in their YMCA pool. His second-place finish was his best at Bonner Springs. “I started out pretty strong,” Cook said. “But I got tired towards the end and was just trying to tough it out.”
Basehor girls win game to remember

Sometimes plans slip away. Elaborate plans fall with a slip in the ice. I planned to attend a bunch of sporting events Saturday. I planned to watch the basketball tournaments where the Basehor-Linwood and Bonner Springs teams were playing. The schedules had broken in my favor. Times were lined up. Ice was not going to stand in my way.
Girls team splits two basketball games

Members of the Bonner Springs girls basketball team are learning the importance of repetition early in the 2007-08 basketball season. They are learning the value of shooting the basketball well, playing sound defense and getting point production from various players. Players are understanding the contributions that a freshman can make in Chelsey Crawford who scored nine points in the basketball game on Saturday. “As she goes, we go,” coach Clay Oakes said.
Braves slip in icy classic

During the first two games of the Bonner Springs Metro Classic basketball tournament coach Ryan Hull saw two different teams in home jerseys. He saw a team that played well for three quarters and lost to Atchison. He also saw a team that lost where players showed the effects of playing a game less than 12 hours after the tournament opener.

Push is coming to shove for Wyandotte County casino plans

This week marks the end of the first, local phase in decision making for the casino proposal-selection process for Wyandotte County. On Friday all casino proposals endorsed by the Unified Government and Edwardsville must be forwarded to the Kansas Lottery Commission, which will choose one proposal to be awarded the gambling license for the county.
