'Tis the season to be giving.. In theBonner Springs-Edwardsville District food drives at five schools have collected more than 6,300 items for Vaughn-Trent Community Services' Christmas Basket program for families. in need this season.

That includes 1,500 items from Bonner Springs Elementary, 2,104 from Edwardsville Elementary, 500 from Delaware Ridge, and 3,200 from Bonner Springs High School, which also raised $900 for Vaughn-Trent.

The drive at Clark Middle School is still going, and students will bring food items to the dance scheduled this Friday.

Students and staff brought items to their home pod and fifth-grade students then collected the items and recorded the amounts each day. Each week, for four weeks, the totals were posted in the hallway so students could see their p rogress toward the goal. On the last day of the food drive fourth-grade students boxed up the food items so they could be carried to First Christian Church for distribution. This week, the fourth graders will walk to the church to help sort, rebox, and distribute holiday packages of food for less fortunate members of our community.

"We are all very proud of the time and effort these students put in to benefit others" said Hann.

The BSE third grade classes got in on the act as well, collecting more than 100 hats, scarves and mittens..
