Mayor, 45, charged in battery
The Wyandotte County District Attorney charged Edwardsville Mayor Heinz Rodgers on Aug. 31 with two counts of domestic battery.
A police report shows Rodgers, 45, was cited Aug. 18 for misdemeanor domestic battery. The victim listed in the report was Susan Rodgers, his wife.
Police were called to the 600 block of Edwardsville Drive on Aug. 18. Rodgers was not there when officers arrived, but was cited later that night.
Rodgers surrendered to the Wyandotte County Sheriff Friday morning. He was released after posting a $1,500 bond.
No court date has been set for the case, Schneider said.
Calls and an e-mail from the Chieftain were not returned by Rodgers.
Rodgers, a former member of the Edwardsville Planning Commission, succeeded Stephanie Eickhoff as mayor in April after defeating former Council member John Broman for the post.
His arrest was the latest in a series of embarrassments for Edwardsville.
Council member Patrick Isenhour resigned his post as Council president in July after it was revealed he was registered as a sex offender in Wisconsin. He was convicted in the early 1990s, when he was 22, for having sex with a girl under the age of 16.
Also that month, Council member Bob Lane was ordered to stand trial for three felonies that are part of a ticket-fixing case.
Misdemeanor charges against former Police Chief Steve Vaughan in the same case were dropped because of speedy-trial concerns.
