Bonner Springs loses soccer game to Lansing
April 9, 2008
Lansing defeated the Bonner Springs soccer team 9-0 on Tuesday at David Jaynes' Stadium.
Only a handful of fans braved the weather to watch the game.
Lansing senior Christine Cordes scored three goals in the first period. She had several more shots on goal turned away by Bonner Springs goalie Tiffany Burgoon.
Her hat trick helped set the tone for the entire game-a game in which BSHS struggled to get anything going.
"We played a great team tonight," Bonner Springs coach Mike Moulin said. "They are deep and have strong girls from top to bottom. They do not have a lot of weaknesses."
The Lions' depth proved to be a major difference in the game. At times, they would substitute seven to eight girls at a time allowing starters to stay fresh and in attack mode throughout the game.
Bonner Springs can only rest one or two players at a time due to depth, injuries and youth. Every time the team thinks it is getting healthy, another player gets hurt.
"We take two steps forward and one step back it seems," Moulin said.
The second half was much like the first; a Lions player earned a hat trick. Rachel Pride displayed her powerful leg in scoring three goals from all over the field.
Lansing rounded out the scoring with Tigan Huffman and Allison Dillon each getting a goal. An "own goal" deflected off a BSHS defender to make the score 9-0 with over five minutes left in the game.
The Braves ran hard until the game was over.
"Nine to nothing is like a baseball score, but for the girls to keep fighting says a lot about them," he said. "I think the girl's confidence is improving. They come to practice everyday and work hard even if they are hurt and tired."
Bonner Springs next game is Thursday at home against Maranatha Academy.
