$30,000 in drugs stolen at Miller’s
Employees believe burglars hit store late last Thursday
February 13, 2008
Bonner Springs About $30,000 worth of prescription narcotics was burglarized from a downtown Bonner Springs institution last Thursday. Sometime after the store closed that night, someone forced the lock on the front door at Miller Pharmacy, 207 Oak St., and stole the drugs.
Bonner Springs Lt. Rick Schubert said he couldn't speculate as to whether the drugs were stolen in order to sell them, but he said "that's a tremendous amount of narcotics for personal use."
Don Wheeler, pharmacist and manager in charge at Miller, said he'd never experienced a theft like last week's before, which he and his staff figured must have taken place at about 11 p.m. The loss is covered by the pharmacy's insurance, Wheeler said.
The only damage to the store was the door lock, Wheeler said.
The other Miller Pharmacy, at 540 S. Fourth St. was also burglarized about 10 years ago, he said.
As of Wednesday the staff at the Bonner Springs store was still in the process of completing an inventory to figure out just what was stolen, Wheeler said.
On Jan. 19 DeGoler's Pharmacy, 8101 Parallel Pkwy., was robbed of prescription drugs.
Schubert said his department has no leads on the Miller burglary and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with knowledge of the crime is asked to call the Bonner Springs Police Department at (913) 422-7800.
