BSHS boys fall to Louisburg
February 13, 2008
Members of the Bonner Springs High School boys basketball team started slow and never caught up against Louisburg High School on Tuesday.
Louisburg jumped out to a 19-7 at the end of the first quarter and won the game 65-49.
"It was our typical cold start that we always have," Braves coach Ryan Hull said. "We got it down to three points and two points, but that was as close as it got. We missed a lot of wide-open shots."
After trailing by double digits at the end of the first quarter on Tuesday, Bonner Springs mounted a rally in the second quarter.
The Braves cut the lead to 23-17 in the second quarter before Louisburg closed the half out on a 10-6 run.
The score at halftime was 33-24.
In the third quarter, Bonner Springs cut lead to two, 35-33, when the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run to break open the basketball game and build a 44-33 lead.
"We missed a lot of open shots," Hull said. "I think we shot 37 percent from the field."
The Wildcats led 46-38 at the end of the third quarter.
Ariel Adger made a field goal to make it a 46-40 game early in the fourth quarter.
However, Louisburg answered with back-to-back baskets and Jeff Woods made a field goal to make the score 50-40.
The final score featured a wider scoring disparity because of the number of times that Louisburg went to the foul line and made shots.
When a team has to commit fouls in order to stop the clock, the score final score can look like the game wasn't as close as it was, Hull said.
"I was happy with how we played after that," he said. "It was a two-or-three point game on a couple of trips down the floor."
L.T. Lee scored 14 points in the game and Martin Birch scored 12. Adger finished with 10 points.
Jordan Embers led Louisburg in scoring with 19 points.
In the post, Kyle Nauman scored 14 points and Brian Bacchus scored 11 points.
Woods chipped in nine points and Jason Spradling scored eight.
Bonner Springs plays host to Tonganoxie on Friday.
"Yeah, it is big for us," Hull said. "We need to give it everything that we have against them."
Tip time is set for 7:30 p.m.
