January 30, 2008
Bonner Springs The Bonner Springs Rotary Club donated 354 books and 56 videos to the local Head Start program this week.
Lauri Welty, chair of the "Books for Kids" project, gave club members the totals at the weekly meeting Monday at the Jet Fuel Cafe.
The club led the district in the number of books per Rotarian given.
Pat Likens, Head Start director, and Chellie Bonebrake, community relations, were present to accept the books and videos which they said were very much appreciated.
The program was presented by member Darrell Donahue who told of his experiences during World War II. He joined the infantry right out of high school and served 22 months. He was part of Gen. Patton's Army in Germany at the close of the war.
He shared documents, newspapers and letters that he had saved as mementos of his experiences.
Next week will be Committee planning meetings.
