Kelly, Porchia represent Bravettes on KVL squad
In league loaded with pitchers, senior stood out

The Bonner Springs High School softball team played well at times on its way to a five-win season, and much of the Bravettes' success came when senior pitcher Sadie Kelly was on the mound.
Even with the low number of victories, the Bravettes still were one of the league's most improved teams during one of the Kaw Valley League's most balanced seasons.
Kelly had plenty to do with the Bravettes' improvement.
In fact she claimed all five victories in 84 innings pitched, striking out 67 and walking only 19. Kelly was rewarded for her efforts by being named to the All-Kaw Valley League second team.
"Sadie making second team really shows just how much heart she has," BSHS coach Roger Davidson said. "I think it is a respectful gesture by the other coaches in this league to recognize her efforts."
Kelly's recognition is more notable considering the depth of quality pitchers in the league this season. The two first-team pitchers - Lansing's Brittney Lang and Perry-Lecompton's Courtney Kasson - were among the most dominant pitchers in the state in Class 5A and 4A, respectively.
Also for the Bravettes, junior outfielder and catcher Starian Porchia made the second team after turning in a .293 batting average with a .426 on-base percentage. She also swiped seven bases.
"She performed really well in (league games) when she played outfield; she split time at catcher," Davidson said. "Next year she has a legitimate shot at making first team if we can get her out from behind the plate and into her natural outfield position more often."
