New minister to arrive in Bonner
June 26, 2008
Brad Wheeler, Bonner Springs, is a newly commissioned minister in The United Methodist Church.
Bishop Scott Jones, Wichita, commissioned Wheeler during a service June 6 in Baldwin. The service at Baker University was part of the 2008 session of the Kansas East Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.
Through commissioning as a probationary member of the annual conference, the church recognizes a candidate's talents, gifts and training and sends the individual into leadership and service in the name of Jesus Christ. The commissioning begins a time of probation as candidates prepare to move through the process to be ordained either an elder or a deacon and full member in the church. Wheeler is preparing for ordination as an elder and full member of the conference.
Wheeler has a bachelor's degree in biology and genetics from Kansas University and a masters of divinity from St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Mo. Wheeler will begin a new appointment to Bonner Springs United Methodist Church on July 1.
Wheeler, a native of Bonner Springs, and his wife, Melissa, have two children, Alex and Sam. He is the son of Don and Vicky Wheeler, of Bonner Springs.
