VFW elects officers, attends conference

Olsen-McGraw-Thompson-Goins Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6401 of Bonner Springs and its Ladies Auxiliary recently elected officers.
The officers for the post are: Donald Norman, commander; Dick Hardy, senior vice commander; Norman Dysart, junior vice commander; Sam Summers, quartermaster; Pete Gomez, judge advocate; Darrell Donahue, chaplain; Larry Hollenbeck, surgeon; Phil Hutchinson, 3-year trustee; Pete Gomez, 2-year trustee; Al Stuchlik, 1-year trustee.
Officers for the ladies auxiliary are: Ann Williams, president; Karen Hollenbeck, senior vice president; AnnaMae Saunders, junior vice president; Pat Summers, treasurer; Joan Breneman, secretary; Anna Bukovaz, chaplain; Trina Gomez, guard; Genevieve Donahue, conductress; Susan Hopkins, 3-year trustee.
At the District 2 Spring Convention, the post and auxiliary won awards, including Department of Kansas 100 Percent Membership Award, Letter and Pins; Department of Kansas Community Service Award for Post of the Year 2007-2008 Division 3, 2nd District, Department of Kansas; 2nd District 100 Percent Membership Award; Flag Etiquette and Flag Program Division 3, 2nd District, Department of Kansas; 2nd District Surgeon's Award for 2007-2008; 2nd District Teacher's Award to Leslie Blythe for first place, 9-12 at Bonner Springs High School; 2nd District POW/MIA Program.
Awards won by the auxiliary include: first place, Veterans and Family Support; first place Hospital; first place Buddy Poppy, Genevieve Donahue, chairperson; second place, Americanism, Joan Breneman, chairperson; Membership, Pat Summers, chairperson; Cancer Aid and Research, Karen Hollenbeck, chairperson; third place, Community Service and Youth; Certificate of Appreciation, National Home, Eva Jenkins, chairperson; Voice of Democracy Program; Publicity, Ann Williams, chairperson.
