There’s a new family business in Edwardsville. Brothers Jasen and John Currie, with the help of their father, John Sr., opened JC ’s Speedy Lube on Monday, and as of midday Tuesday, the shop, at 9701 Kaw Drive, had performed 22 oil changes.

Shortly after Michael Vick was indicted on federal dogfighting charges, he attended an empathy class at PETA ’s headquarters in Norfolk, Va. He learned a lot from the class that his friends had never taught him, including that dogs have feelings and deserve better than being treated like fighting machines.

On Nov. 11, the BLMS eighth-grade A team defeated Gardner-based Pioneer Ridge, 33-25, behind an 11-point effort from Jamie Johnson. The balanced attack also featured a 10-point performance by Samantha Rutherford and an 8-point effort from Kara Stephens. Desiree Ridder added 3 points and Mallorie Belk chipped in 1.

Turkeys are flying off the shelves of local stores as Thanksgiving Day nears. Five of those turkeys will be headed toward the 15th annual Bonner Springs Community Thanksgiving Dinner, which will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, at the First Christian Church, 148 N. Nettleton Ave.

When the Bonner Springs school district hired Joe Hornbeck as vice principal at Bonner Springs High School they made an excellent choice because they got Joe’s expertise not only as an administrator but also as a former high school football coach with nine years of experience.
