Planners OK special-use permit

The Bonner Springs Planning Commission’s agenda for Tuesday had just one item: a special-use permit for the Holliday Sand and Gravel Plant at 21900 W. 43rd St.
The permit for the approximately 75.5 acres was necessary because under city ordinance, the permit awarded in 2000 could not be conveyed to the new owners of the plant, Ash Grove Cement, which bought it in August.
In a workshop session before the regular meeting, the commission approved having no meeting in November and moving the December meeting to Dec. 16.
The commission approved also meeting dates for the coming year. The meetings, normally conducted at 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month, will have two exceptions in 2009: June 16 and Dec. 15.

The postal service is cutting back hours at some rural post offices. How often do you go to the post office?
“For my own personal use, I only go a couple times a year to mail gifts, usually around Christmas and family birthdays. At that time I usually buy a couple books of stamps that last for most of the year! For professional use, I go a couple times a month to check our PO Box.”
