The Bonner Springs High School girls tennis team kicked off its season with two duals and one junior varsity tournament. This year's schedule tested the young Bravettes squad right out of the gate with the toughest opponent all year, Bishop Miege.

The dual at Bonner was originally due to rain, but upon rescheduling the varsity was defeated 9-0.

Coach Bill Scott expected Miege to push the Bravettes around, but he thought that the experience of playing such a talented school would pay off down the road.

It took all of a couple of days to see the payoff.

In the second varsity dual of the year Bonner Springs defeated Olathe North, 5-4.

In the singles matches against Olathe North, Meghan Miller lost 8-2, Renee Drury lost 9-8 (7-5) in a tiebreaker, Caitlin Hilliard lost 8-6, Teran Holter won 8-6, Emily Randolph won 8-2 and Jessica Mitchell won 8-2. In doubles, Miller-Holter won 8-5, Drury-Randolph fell 8-2 and Hilliard-Mitchell won 8-3.

The JV played well in the Mill Valley Junior Varsity Tournament, with one team of freshmen, Toni Stock and Breanna Tendick, placing fourth with a 3-2 record.
