CMS nets two wins in busy week

September 24, 2008

The Clark Middle School eighth-grade football team picked up two victories during the past week.

In the first game Friday the team defeated Patton, 12-8.

A disciplined offensive performance (CMS had just one offensive penalty) was key against a strong six-man front from Patton. Clark struggled to move the ball early, and Patton led 8-6 at halftime. Clark took the lead early in the second half and then managed the clock effectively to close out the game.

Matt Call led the offense with 58 yards rushing on 10 carries. Aaron Puckett had 25 yards on nine carries and Joe Merino had 29 yards on five carries. Quarterback Johnathan Blackwell completed five of eight passes for 54 yards and an interception. Robbie Jones caught two passes for 37 yards.

Defensively, Jason Van Maren picked off a pass late in the game that sealed the victory.

Clark (2-1) returned to the field Tuesday and picked up a 32-0 victory over Turner.

The offense clicked on all cylinders. Call rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, and he also threw for two touchdowns. Blackwood completed seven of 11 passes for 46 yards.

Robbie Jones' six tackles highlighted the CMS defense.
