BSHS golfers third at Sunflower

April 9, 2009

The Bonner Springs golf team had to wait two extra days to play host to the Sunflower Hills Invitational, but the delay didn’t hamper the Braves’ performance.

BSHS turned in a solid all-around performance and finished third out of eight teams with a score of 365 on Saturday at Sunflower Hills Golf Course.

St. James Academy won the team title with 348 and Tonganoxie was second with 364.

BSHS had three of the top 10 golfers at the tournament, and all five Braves finished in the top 15.

Parker Miller led the way with an 85, good for second place overall. Steven Shores shot an 89 and placed eighth, while Steven Walker’s 92 was good for 10th place.

Blake McMahon was 13th with a 99 and Logan Opat rounded out the Braves’ lineup with a 103, good for 15th.

St. James’ Gill Williams was the tournament champion with an 84.

Basehor-Linwood sent its junior varsity squad to the tournament and finished fifth with a 483.

Gabe Vlassic was the top BLHS performer. He finished 14th with a 100.

“Gabe is a sophomore. He did a great job competing against varsity teams,” BLHS coach Bruce Courtney said.
