December 3, 2009
Former Bonner Springs High School football and track standouts Jonathan and Jeremy Walker won numerous individual state championships on the track for BSHS during their high school careers.
On Sunday, the twin brothers will try to collect their first national title — this one in football.
The Walker brothers and their Fort Scott Community College teammates will take on Blinn (Tex.) College at 1 p.m. Sunday at Carnie Smith Stadium in the Citizen’s Bank Bowl. The game will determine the National Junior College Athletic Association national champion.
Fort Scott enters the contest with an 11-0 record and a No. 1 national ranking. Blinn is ranked No. 2 and has a 10-1 record.
Jonathan Walker plays running back for Fort Scott and has carried the ball 48 times for 180 yards and two touchdowns.
Jeremy Walker plays defensive back and has 11 tackles this season.
Other area players for Fort Scott include Nicholas Woods and Justin Woods from Mill Valley, Brad Terron of Lansing, OJ Shields of Shawnee Mission North and Zach Estes and Storm Sadler of Leavenworth.
