Bonner receives 8 inches; road crews working throughout the week
December 28, 2009
Bonner Springs received 8 inches of snow over Christmas weekend, according to the National Weather Service, and road crews are still out in full force trying to lower the danger factor on Bonner roads.
Kevin Bruemmer, public works director, said today all of the city’s main roads had been cleared and the focus throughout the rest of the week would be on clearing and treating residential streets. He said crews would also be “widening out,” the roads, or clearing the mounds of snow that have been plowed to the curb of the roads to make more room for drivers to safely pass.
Bruemmer said crews have been out all day and all night since the weather event that would leave many unable to safely leave their homes started on Thursday afternoon. Crews began pre-treating the roads about 2 p.m. Thursday, he said.
Bruemmer said he hadn’t heard of any power outages in the city.
He said crews would continue to plow and treat the residential roads throughout the week. He warned, however, that more snow is expected Wednesday, so there is no telling what condition the roads will be by week’s end.
