Weldon Padgett assumed duties as the Bonner Springs city manager, replacing Tom Cooley who had retired.
Ray and Ann Breuer donated 10.3 acres of land to the Basehor Historical Society as a site for a museum and conference center. Wes Neu was chairman of the Basehor Historical Society.
The city of Edwardsville completed work on its new storm shelter/community shelter.
An announcement was made that State Rep. David Haley would be the featured speaker at the local Martin Luther King celebration. Boris Sztorch, Edwardsville city administrator, agreed to serve as master of ceremonies.
Construction was nearing completion for the new Wendy’s in Canaan Center.

A groundbreaking ceremony was conducted for the new facility being constructed by Dr. Lloyd Forester Jr. on Kansas Highway 32 in Edwardsville.
Larry Moore, KMBC-TV anchor, agreed to be the featured speaker at the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Chamber of Commerce installation banquet.
Wes Stucky, Bonner Springs, was named vice president of economic development and governmental affairs for the Kansas City, Kan., Chamber of Commerce.

Lee Penny was the new worthy advisor for the local Rainbow Girls. Shirley Bush was the worthy associate advisor.
Members of the Delaware Township board were: Roy Tinberg, trustee; Gill Jackson, treasurer; and Perry Grinter, clerk.
The American Association of University Women met at the home of Mrs. Ben White.
Total assets of the Bonner Springs Building and Loan Association were $650,949.08. Anna Everett was the vice president and Glenn R. Barb was secretary.

Bonner Springs residents raised $44.70 to aid victims of a massive earthquake in Italy.
The Bonner Springs City Council passed a resolution setting five districts or wards within the city. One councilman would represent each ward.
A new chair furniture factory was opened by Mr. Cooper and Mr. Pigg.
Basehor and Bonner Springs reported a serious outbreak of pneumonia.
Professor Herman Pfeiffer was in Bonner Springs for a visit. He left the city to accept a position as principal of the schools in Wetmore.
