Chamber to honor People of the Year

It will be a night of recognitions as the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes a new crop of officers and awards its annual Community People of the Year.

The annual chamber of commerce meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Edwardsville Community Center. A social will begin at 5:30 p.m. with seating for dinner at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $20 per person and can be bought from the chamber office, City of Bonner Springs or the City of Edwardsville.

During the meeting, Gene Reynolds of Bonner Springs and Randy Gilbert of Edwardsville will receive the annual Community People of the Year Award. Reynolds and Gilbert were nominated for the award by their community peers.

Reynolds works for Roberts Automotive Group and served as Bonner Springs mayor from 1975 to 1979 and is now on the board of directors of Sunflower Hills Golf Course and is a member of the Bonner Springs Board of Zoning Appeals.

Gilbert works for Builders Overhead Door in Kansas City, Kan., and is chairman of the Edwardsville Parks and Recreation board.

Both award recipients are being honored for their service and dedication to their respective communities and for their leadership roles.

During the business portion of the meeting, new officers and board members will officially assume their positions. Replacing Mike Clouse as president will be Marcia Ashford with the City of Bonner Springs. Paul Bush with Union Bank & Trust will be first vice president, Anthony Corporon with Perry & Trent, LLC will be second vice president, Jerry Abbott with USD 204 with be third vice president, Jane Jackson with Jackson Service Center will be treasurer, and Charlene Biles will be executive vice president and secretary.
