Douglas, Peterson set lifting records

The Basehor-Linwood High School powerlifting team swept the boys and girls championships on Saturday at Abilene.

For the BLHS girls, the team title was the squad’s eighth in a row during a dominant two-year span.

For the Basehor boys, Chris Douglas set a meet record in the 114-pound weight class with a clean of 160 pounds. He also tied a meet record in the squad with 220 pounds. He finished first overall in his weight class for total weight lifted between his bench press, squad and clean lifts.

Other top performers for BLHS included Russell Clark (123 pounds), Brady Blackwood (132), Nick Stevens (140), Nathan Quigley (148), Zach Smith (152), Cody Green (220) and Jacob Powell (242). All placed first in their weight classes for total weight lifted.

Second-place finishes were turned in by Brian Pemberton (132), Bobby Courtney (148) and Brandon Leppke (173). Patrick Rutherford (132), Dylan Blanchard (148) and Martin Buck (165) finished third in total weight in their classes.

Kayla Peterson highlighted the day for the Basehor girls as she set a meet record in the 132-pound weight class with her 155-pound hang clean. Peterson also placed first in the squat and bench press lifts and was first in the overall weight total for her weight class.

Lauren Klem, Megan Rehm, Brittany Billinger, Shelby Pierce, Jennifer Ciszewski and Shelby Witt also placed first in the total weight category in their respective weight classes.

Also for the Bobcat girls, four lifters finished second in total weight in their respective classes. Those lifters were Alyssa Rucker, Kaitlyn Allen, Rachel Neal and Emily Blanks. Third-place finishes were turned in by Leah Roberts, Kenzie Mitchener and Ashley Richardson.
