BSE fifth-graders receive awards

Fifth-graders of Bonner Springs Elementary were recognized May 15 for the completion of elementary school and their advancement to middle school.
Three special awards were given to several students. The President’s Award for Educational Excellence was given to students who earned a grade point average of 90 on a 100-point scale or straight A’s all four quarters and were in the 85th percentile in reading and math on Kansas State tests.
The President’s Award for Educational Achievement was given to students who showed outstanding educational growth, improvement, commitment or intellectual development in their academic subjects. These students showed tremendous growth throughout the school year, demonstrated unusual commitment to learning in academics despite various obstacles, achieved high scores or show outstanding growth, improvement, commitment or intellectual development in particular subjects, such as English, math or science.
The President’s Award for Citizenship was given to students who participated in school and community service, showed a positive attitude toward classmates, school, and community, displayed an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility, possessed strength of character and the courage to do what was right and promote citizenship with their school or community through other activities.

President’s Award for Educational Achievement:
Cody Cox, Blake McMahan, Taryn Remigio, Araceli Rosales, Isaac Bolton, Mayra Hernandez, Chelsee Powers, Kaitlyn Donell, Maria Rosales, Priscilla Rosales, Kelley Walker, Jesica Banuelos, Tyler Dill, Madelynn Mefferd, Joshua Pressley and Haley Wright.
President’s Award for Citizenship:
Julianne Jackson, Collin Sechrist, Peter Klingele, Payton Sechrist, Jacob Pressley, Lexi Sechrist, Tanya Hernandez and Marisol Ochoa-Gonzalez.
