10 Years Ago (June 3, 1999)

The Rev. Ray Bailey retired from his post as chaplain at Bethany Medical Center.

The USD 204 Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Board of Education honored retiring board members Jim Finley, on the board for 16 years, Bob White, on the board for four years and Pat Wheeler, on the board for eight years.

Columbus defeated the Basehor-Linwood Lady Bobcats 4-0 in the first round of the Kansas 4-A state tournament. Wendy Hart had two hits for BLHS while Bridget Hampton and Trina Ellifrits each had one.

25 Years Ago (June 7, 1984)

Ground-breaking ceremonies were planned for the First National Bank of Bonner Springs. Officers and staff of the bank were: Bill Dahl, president, Rolla Lee, senior vice president and cashier, Dana J. Gilbert and Ralph Puglisi.

Brian Landers and Tim Jones, sophomores at Bonner Springs High School, were selected to be part of the cast of productions at Starlight Theatre.

Keith Everhart, Basehor, signed to play football at Highland Community College.

Lisa Camp earned the Gold Medal, which is the top award for Girl Scouts.

50 years Ago (June 4, 1959)

L. L. Van Petten was named principal at Bonner Springs Rural High School, and Kenneth Tewell was appointed vice principal. Ed Gorsky was named guidance counselor.

Greeley Gas Co. announced plans to have an open house at its new building on Nettleton. Homer Miesse was division manager for Greeley Gas.

Mickey Reynolds was named the outstanding senior athlete at Bonner Springs Rural High School. The trophy was donated by Jim Finley, Chieftain sports editor.

100 Years Ago (June 3, 1909)

The Bonner Springs City Council passed a curfew ordinance requiring young people to be home by 9 p.m. Those violating the ordinance would be escorted home by the marshal.

Baseball returned to Bonner Springs with Juniors defeating the Young Men’s Class of the First Christian Church, 11-6. Gate receipts were $4.

J. D. Waters, Luther Kindred and L. G. Frisbie purchased a three-quarter interest in Lake of the Forest from John McDanield. The three along with W. H. Caffrey had control of the operation of the lake.

e Ladies Reading Club met at the home of Mrs. Dan McNamara. Mrs. Philo Clark gave the program.
