Police investigate suspicious man hanging around Edwardsville Elementary

At about 2 p.m. Thursday the Edwardsville Police Department investigated a report of a suspicious person at the Edwardsville Elementary School.
During an afternoon recess, several students noticed a man, possibly wearing a mask, crouching in a wooded area along the school’s eastern property line, the police department reports. The man ran from the area and the students alerted school staff.
Officers searched the surrounding area, but were unable to locate the person. The school remained in lockdown as a precautionary measure. Extra patrols are planned in and around the school.
