Former Bonner Springs standouts help Fort Scott to No. 2 ranking

Former Bonner Springs High School football and track standouts Jonathan and Jeremy Walker are having a memorable freshman season of football at Fort Scott Community College.

Fort Scott is undefeated at 11-0 overall, 7-0 in the Jayhawk Conference and ranked No. 2 nationally in the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings.

A running back, Jonathan Walker ranks third on the team with 180 yards rushing on 48 carries. He has scored two touchdowns. In addition, he has returned two kickoffs for 43 yards.

Jeremy Walker is a defensive back. He has appeared in every game for the Greyhounds and has 11 tackles.

The Greyhounds played Saturday, Nov. 15, in the Region VI Championship game against Butler Community College and pulled out a 13-12 victory.

Up next for the unbeaten Greyhounds is the Citizen’s Bank Bowl Dec. 6 in Pittsburg against an opponent that has yet to be determined.

In addition to the Walker twins, other area players on the Fort Scott roster include Spenser Bennett of Sumner Academy, Donnell Jones, Zach Estes and Storm Sadler of Leavenworth, O.J. Shields of Shawnee Mission North, Brad Terron of Lansing and Justin Woods and Nicholas Woods of Mill Valley.
