Developer, WWII veteran J.R. Evans dies at age 82
A Bonner Springs resident who built hundreds of homes in the area has died.
J.R. Evans, 82, of Bonner Springs, died Tuesday, April 13.
Evans built and developed homes in the Greater Kansas City area for 45 years. Among the areas he developed was Glenwood Estates.
He joined the Home Builders Association in June 1990 and helped establish its Southern Leavenworth County Chapter, serving as its president.
A World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy, Evans also was active at West Haven Baptist Church and served as trustee.
His wife, Joyce (Heriford) Evans, two daughters Raylene Dodd and Carlene Scott, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, at the funeral home.
