The Bonner Springs wrestling team took on some of Missouri’s best Friday and Saturday at the Lee’s Summit Holiday Invitational, and the Braves turned in an all-around stellar performance.

Bonner Springs placed seventh out of 24 teams and had six individual medalists.

Ozark High won the team title with 346.5 points, Francis Howell Central was second with 342.5 and Jefferson City finished third with 280.5. BSHS posted a score of 238.

Senior Caleb Seaton and sophomore Jonathan Blackwell highlighted the weekend for the Braves as both advanced to the finals in their respective weight classes before finishing second.

At 125 pounds, Seaton posted an 8-1 record. His lone loss was an 11-6 decision against Ben Henson of Francis Howell Central. Blackwell went 8-1 at 135 pounds, and his only setback was an 8-5 decision against Josh Bennett of Francis Hall Central in the finals.

Junior Mark Hobson also had a strong tournament. He placed third in the 145-pound bracket and turned in an 8-1 record. Hobson’s lone loss was a 6-4 decision to eventual tournament champion Justin Dickey of Francis Hall Central in the semifinals. Hobson bounced back with a third-period pin of Josh Aguilar of Lee’s Summit in the third-place match.

Sophomore Aaron Puckett battled to a 7-2 record and a fourth-place finish at 140 pounds. In addition, sophomore 112-pounder Justus Seaton went 5-3 and placed sixth in his weight class, and sophomore Jared Clements went 5-3 and took sixth at 171 pounds.

Although they didn’t finish in the top six, junior 130-pounder Austin Cobb and sophomore 160-pounder Patrick Ballard wrestled well enough in pool competition on Friday to advance to Saturday’s bracket competition.
