Census year will provide 1,400 jobs in Wyandotte County

February 2, 2010

The year 2010 means another census year and with it, new census-taking jobs.

According to the Census Bureau Web site, hundreds of thousands of census takers are needed nationwide. And according to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County’s weekly newsletter, ENews Source, about 1,400 census-taking jobs will need to be filled in Wyandotte County alone.

Part-time census takers work in their own communities and are offered good pay and flexible hours. Census takers will help to locate households and conduct resident interviews in aiding the Bureau to determine how many people live within a given city.

Most positions require a valid driver’s license and ownership of a functioning vehicle, but some areas may allow public transportation.

To apply or for more information, contact the Kansas City Census Office at (913) 233-8420. Census takers in the Kansas City metro area start at $14.75 per hour.

A census is taken every 10 years, with the last census being taken in 2000.
