January 6, 2010
Schools in Basehor-Linwood and Bonner Springs-Edwardsville school districts will remain closed for a second consecutive day Thursday as the Kansas City area contends with the effects of a winter storm.
Snow began falling mid-afternoon Wednesday and continued into the evening hours with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches expected. Highways throughout the metro area are snowpacked and icy, the Kansas Department of Transportation reported.
The National Weather Service, which issued a winter storm warning for the region through 6 p.m. Thursday, predicted more snow and widespread blowing snow before midnight. After midnight, forecasters said there would be widespread blowing snow and a chance of snow.
The overnight low was expected to reach around 8 with wind chill values between minus 2 and minus 12. Wind gusts could reach as high as 31 mph.
Thursday, forecasters said there would be widespread blowing snow and scattered flurries with a high near 9.
