Mental health to be focus of upcoming workshops

Mental Health America of the Heartland will be offering several programs and workshops throughout the month of January.
“Let’s Tear Down the Wall,” a community conversation with neighborhood and faith leaders to address depression and other mental health issues, will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, in the Pioneer Campus Auditorium, 2700 E. 18th St., Kansas City, Mo.
Presenters will include Amy Zugelter, with National Alliance for Mental Illness FaithNet, and Stacy Davis, with Mental Health America of the Heartland.

A workshop on professional ethics in social and medical services will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in the Conference Center, Kansas City Kansas Community College, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan.
The presenter for this workshop will be Paul Malloy, who has worked as a school social worker, university instructor, adolescent and family counselor and drug and psychiatric social worker before starting his own private practice in Overland Park in 1990.
A workshop on powerful, non-defensive communication will be led by Jason Brensdal, who has worked for more than 25 years in the communication and healthcare fields.
The workshop will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, in the Old Mission United Methodist Church, 5519 State Park Road, Fairway.
