BSHS wrestlers 4th at beefed-up Mat Classic
January 11, 2010
A handful of teams backed out of the Dick Burns Mat Classic after another round of snow storms struck the Kansas City area, but a handful of other teams joined the field at the last minute and created a more daunting tournament field.
Among those teams were tournament champion Gardner-Edgerton and third-place finisher St. Thomas Aquinas. Defending champion Bellevue (Neb.) East took second.
Hot on their heels in fourth was Bonner Springs as Brian Callahan led the Braves to one of their strongest showings in recent memory.
Callahan rolled to the 171-pound championship as he earned a 9-0 major decision against Dane Cummings of Fort Scott in the finals.
Also for BSHS, Justus Seaton (103 pounds), Caleb Seaton (119 pounds) and Aaron Puckett (140 pounds) reached the finals but finished second. Jonathan Blackwell finished third at 130 pounds and Jared Clements was fourth at 160 pounds.
