Both the Tiblow Transit and Bonner Springs Senior Center have come up short in their funding and during Monday night’s council meeting, a plan was unanimously approved to get both back on track.

Included in the plan was that the Senior Center would receive $3,382 from the city’s general fund contingency reserve to offset a more than 50 percent reduction in its 2010 funding, part of which comes from the mill levy imposed by the Unified Government of Wyandotte County’s Area Agency on Aging.

Under the plan, the Tiblow Transit, which suffered a 50 percent decrease in funding, will take several steps to offset the $4,555 loss in funds. These actions include:

• Requesting a combined donation from Wal-Mart, McDonald’s and Price Chopper of $8,500. In the past, Tiblow Transit has only been granted a combined amount of $4,750 from these establishments.

• Submitting an application to the Goodcents Foundation for $1,500.

• Looking for ways to reduce fuel cost. Department head Rita Hoag said she expected fuel cost to be reduced this year by about $6,000.

As a last resort, and only if the above three actions don’t offset the entire decrease, Hoag said a final action would be taken: Reducing the dispatcher’s allowed work hours by one half hour, which would save $635.25, or reducing those work hours by a full hour, which would save $2,250.
