Bravettes fall in first round of Top Gun Tournament

— For three quarters, free throws weren’t falling for either Baldwin High or Bonner Springs’ girls basketball teams.

However, one team made its foul shots during the final quarter of the first round Top Gun Tournament Tuesday at Wellsville High School.

Baldwin sank nine of 12 free throws in the final quarter to secure a 46-34 victory against the Bravettes. The two teams combined to make 27 of 58 foul shots. Baldwin led the way with 19 of 33 free throws.

Baldwin led 18-10 with 2:23 remaining in the first half. The Bravettes finished the half on an 8-0 run and started the second half with a 4-0 run.

The game was tied at 31-31 with 6:14 remaining. Then the Bulldogs closed the game by outscoring Bonner Springs 15-3.

BSHS (3-6) will play again at 6 p.m. Thursday against either Wellsville or Kansas City Christian in the consolation semifinals.
