Parents and family members of the Braves boys basketball team don’t have to worry about missing games any more.

Bonner Springs High School is bringing the games to them now.

A couple of mouse clicks and the task of filling out a simple password registration form are all that are needed to access live streaming of home games on the BSHS Web site. Dan Streit, communication arts technology instructor with BSHS, says this is the second year live streaming has been done of the varsity games.

“I think it was, one, to get the school out there onto the Internet,” said Streit of why live streaming of the games was created in the first place. “Also, relatives who maybe have been out of town or live out of state would have an opportunity to watch their nieces and nephews. And it’s also a good tool if colleges tune in to scout.”

The streaming is only available live, when a game is going on. But Streit said DVDs of the games could be purchased for $10. The streaming has the added advantage of giving viewers the opportunity to participate in a live chat with Streit while he is commentating on the game.

Currently BSHS is only streaming boys varsity games. Streit said, however, that next year plans are in the works to stream girls varsity games, as well as football and soccer games. Streit said he would also like to stream junior varsity games, but would need more help from students.

The next live streaming is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, when the Braves take on Lansing.

To view, simply go to the BSHS Web site through the district at usd204.net and click on sports zone, then team sites, then boys basketball then live stream located at the left of the screen. All you will need to do from there is fill out the free password registration form.

Adobe Flash is required to access the live stream.
