Chargers surge past Braves in substate opener

Bonner Springs suffered a quick and decisive end to its season on Wednesday night, falling 50-30 to the Topeka West Chargers in the first round of Class 5A ubstate play.

The Braves jumped out to an early double-digit lead behind hot 3-point shooting, leading 14-4 after the first quarter.

Once the Chargers settled in, however, they took control in their home gym.

They tied the game at 20-20 at halftime and then quickly accelerated away in the second half.

The Chargers outscored the Braves 17-3 in the fourth quarter.

B.J. Watson led the Braves with 12 points.

The Braves end the season with an 8-13 record.
