KCKCC series offers lessons about women’s history

Historical women will be recognized with a series of five free programs at the Kansas City Kansas Community College during the month of March.

The program schedule is as follows:

• Women’s history panels, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2: Historian Jane McClain will discuss the women’s history panels on display in the lower Jewell Center.

• Women’s history read-in, noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 10: The read-in will be facilitated by KCKCC humanities instructor Polly Hawk.

• Feminist writer’s workshops, 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Thursday, March 11, and Tuesday, March 30: Facilitated by KCKCC humanities instructor Tasha Haas, the workshops are for those interested in exploring through writing stories of their mothers, grandmothers and others.

• Write women into history, noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 24: Angela Hubler, director of women’s studies at Kansas State University, will argue that historical fiction may be a more useful resource for empowering young women.
