Bonner resident remained upbeat during final days

Nancy Johnson, known in the Bonner Springs community as director of the Senior Center, died Saturday, March 6.

Johnson had been fighting cancer since 2009. She was originally diagnosed in February 2009 with lung cancer and after chemotherapy was declared in remission. But she got bad news again in February 2010 when she was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Johnson was in the middle of radiation treatment when she died.

Prior to her death, Johnson was not only optimistic about her battle, but maintained her up-beat, positive attitude. Her focus was on planning her son’s upcoming wedding as well as planning her own wedding to longtime partner Bart Betzen.

A celebration of life has been planned from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Lake of the Forest Clubhouse.
