Law enforcement officer, firefighter honored

Heading off Monday night’s Bonner Springs City Council meeting was a little recognition for two members of the city’s public safety force.

Members from the VFW Post 6401 handed out certificates of appreciation to law enforcement officer of the year Vickie Fogarty and firefighter of the year Brandon Reynolds, who was absent from the meeting. Fogarty and Reynolds were honored for the service they have given to the community over the past year.

Mayor Clausie Smith didn’t stop at just recognizing those awarded at the meeting, but took a moment to reflect on the city’s appreciation of both the police and fire departments as a whole.

“I think we’re all very, very proud of our police and fire department and the wonderful job they do of protecting us and keeping us safe,” he said.
