March 11, 2010
Tom Cooley, Unified Government commissioner, spoke at the March 1 meeting of the Bonner Springs Rotary Club.
Cooley said alcohol and gas tax income is down due to state keeping more of it, assessed valuation is down 7 percent and prisoner cost is up as the county must pay for medical bills, etc.
On a positive note, Cooley said the Wizards soccer complex and stadium and Cerner campus has broken ground and will provide thousands of new jobs. He also noted the Fairfax GM plant is running three shifts, which means 900 new jobs. The Kyle Petty Victory Junction Camp is also breaking ground
