Bonner Springs wrestlers drop dual with Lansing

The Bonner Springs High School wrestling team hung tough, but ultimately lost a dual Thursday at Lansing.

LHS won the final four matches and claimed the dual, 42-31.

The Braves won six of the first 10 matches and surged to a 31-21 lead before the Lions finished strong at the heaviest weights.

Josiah Seaton started the dual with a 7-0 decision against Cole Hoing at 103 pounds. Justus Seaton followed with an 11-0 major decision against Spencer Walling and put the Braves ahead, 7-0.

Lansing picked up its first victory at 119 pounds when two-time state champion Bo Pursel pinned Billy Fratzel.

BSHS countered with a third-period pin by 125-pounder Caleb Seaton against Brett Koberlein.

Lansing’s Clayton Bogner earned an 11-6 decision against Austin Cobb at 130 pounds, but again the Braves answered with a victory when 140-pounder Aaron Puckett pinned Mikey Laster. That stretched the Braves’ lead to 25-9.

Lansing’s Spencer Blew pinned Mark Hobson in the first period at 145 pounds, and the Lions’ Dillon Scanlon pinned Tyler Lentz at 152 pounds.

Finally, Bonner Springs’ Patrick Ballard pinned Lansing’s Cameron Trout in the first period at 160 pounds. It was the Braves’ final victory of the night.

Lansing’s Tyler Baughman earned a 6-0 decision against Jared Clements at 171 pounds, Litton Van Der Werff pinned Darian Neal at 189 pounds, Christian Porter pinned Nick Clark at 215 pounds and Derique Cary pinned Shawn Stirling at 285 pounds to close out the dual.

The Braves also collected a few victories in the junior varsity matches as 125-pounder Corey Williams won his match in an 11-1 major decision and 189-pounder J.R. Jones earned a 16-6 major decision in his match.
