The 22nd annual AutumnFest kicks off Friday near Edwards-ville City Hall, 690 S. Fourth St.

This year, for the first time, the carnival portion of the festival will open Friday and continue through Saturday. And this is the first year live music will be offered both Friday and Saturday nights.

The festival begins at noon Friday with check-in for the Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned barbecue competition at City Hall.

Festivities officially get under way at 5 p.m. Friday, when the carnival rides and games are opened to the public. The carnival will be open until 9 p.m. Friday. At 7 p.m. Friday, a band that features rock ‘n’ roll and country oldies, Low Jones, will take the stage.

The annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Edwards-ville Elementary School, 1700 S. 104th St. The carnival will be open throughout Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m., when the crafter booths will open.

Other events Saturday include a parade, Edwardsville Idol competition, pumpkin decorating, barbecue judging and bingo.

At 7 p.m. the live music starts, with Almost Kissed taking the stage. Headliner Slow Cousin Walter follows at 8 p.m.
