Annual Kaw Valley Farms Tour to include stops near Bonner Springs and in Basehor

Holy-Field Vineyard & Winery in Basehor and Knapp Family Farms and Crum’s Heirlooms, both of Bonner Springs, will be among the 24 participating farms on the seventh annual Kaw Valley Farm Tour, Oct. 1 and 2.

The tour began in 2005 to celebrate the diversity and availability of locally-grown food and products in Northeast Kansas. The 24 participating farms produce an astounding variety of items, including fruits, vegetables, beef, cheese, wine, flowers, pumpkins, pork, honey, sod, flour, fiber and dairy products.

Tour hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Special activities include hay rides, “touch-a-tractor” and other farm equipment, opportunities to sample and purchase farm-fresh foods. Organizers say the tour has something for everyone, whether you are looking for educational tours, wine tastings or children’s games. Demonstrations offered include sod harvesting, corn grinding, chocolate making, fiber spinning and more.

In addition to several specialty crop farms and specialty livestock producers, this year’s tour includes a family dairy farm and a traditional row-crop production farm.
